Cherry Blossom Hotspots Around the World
Cherry blossom season is a global spectacle, with iconic blooms from NYC’s Central Park to Tokyo’s Shinjuku Gyoen. Add these spots to your bucket list for the ultimate sakura-inspired getaway.
🌸Tokyo, Japan
The cherry blossoms in Tokyo will begin to bloom this weekend, but for the best hanami (cherry blossom viewing), plan to visit after March 28. Ueno Park is a fan favorite with over 800 cherry trees spread throughout the park. If it’s too crowded, Koganei Park offers a more peaceful alternative for cherry blossom enthusiasts. To follow the bloom across Japan, check out the National Tourism Organization's website for the latest updates.
🌸Washington, D.C.
One of the most iconic spots for cherry blossoms in North America, Washington, D.C. will see its peak bloom between March 23 and March 28, though cooler temperatures have slightly delayed the blossoms this year. Stay updated on the latest bloom dates through the National Park Service’s cherry bloom watch site. For the best views, head to the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park.
🌸Macon, Georgia
While D.C. and Japan get all the glory, Macon, Georgia is the true cherry blossom capital of the world, boasting over 300,000 cherry trees in bloom each year. The city hosts the International Cherry Blossom Festival from March 17 to April 3, during which you can enjoy the stunning variety of blossoms that paint the town in soft pink hues.
🌸Central Park, New York City
Central Park is a must-see during cherry blossom season, with beautiful spots like the Mall and the Ramble offering picturesque views of the trees in full bloom. The park’s cherry trees are among the most famous in New York, and during peak bloom, they transform the landscape into a dreamy, pink paradise. It's the perfect place for a stroll or a picnic under the blossoms.
🌸Stockholm, Sweden
Stockholm’s cooler climate means its cherry blossoms bloom a bit later, typically between early to mid-April. This year, Kungsträdgården (King’s Tree Garden) will celebrate Cherry Blossom Day on April 16. The park, home to 63 Japanese cherry trees planted in 1998, will be the perfect spot to soak in the soft, spring blooms.
🌸Vancouver, Canada
Vancouver’s Cherry Blossom Festival runs from March 24 through April 17, but many of the city’s cherry trees are already in bloom. Hop in the car and explore different neighborhoods, using the festival’s website to find spots with the most blossoms. Act fast, though — some areas have already cycled through their bloom!
